PUB bosses in a conservative market town were last night forced to call time on their saucy new sign - after the image change sparked outrage.

The Fleece, in Richmond, North Yorkshire, was enjoying its new-found fame after changing its name to Tanya's Charms in honour of local model Tanya Robinson, who won FHM magazine's High Street Honeys competition.

But after only one day in the media spotlight, management put an abrupt end to its new identity when a number of angry phone calls were made to the pub, calling for the sign to be taken down.

And last night, Tanya's Charms had gone and the pub name had reverted to The Fleece, with the traditional image of a farmer shearing sheep back outside.

Although the cheeky change brought a smile to some faces, others were offended with people contacting owners of the Laurel pub chain to register their outrage.

One pub regular said: "I think it got a bit nasty in the end.

"Bar staff were even taking abusive phone calls, so the owners decided they had no choice but to go back to the old name."

As well as £10,000 for winning the UK FHM title, 21-year-old Tanya, the reigning Miss Blackpool, has a trip to Miami to look forward to, where she will compete with 15 other girls from around the world for the international title.

Last night, inquiries were being referred to the Laurel chain, where no one could be reached for comment.
