A NATIONAL network for the construction industry plans to create a powerful voice for the sector in the region.
The Rethinking Construction Network plans to have 12 Rethinking Construction regional centres by the summer.
It will bring together regional development agencies, local authorities, professional bodies, trade organisations, CITB contractors and representatives from education, suppliers and manufacturers to serve the local construction community.
It will specifically communicate the benefits of Rethinking Construction to small and medium-sized enterprises by:
* Sharing best practice through a variety of mediums, including a website.
* Clearly demonstrating the practical business benefits of Rethinking Construction relevant to SMEs.
* Publication of how-to tool-kits for the adoption of new skills.
* Giving students hands-on experience of projects.
* Encouraging Government departments to promote the benefits of partnering and integrating supply chains.
* Creating a sustainable development strategy for construction, identifying key issues and business benefits.
Alan Crane, Rethinking Construction chairman, said: "There is no single template for the development and operation of the centres.
"The Rethinking Construction centres are set up and owned by local construction interests in order to support the development of a more sustainable construction industry in the regions."
