FOUR houses are to replace garages at High Riding, Richmond, despite residents' concerns about lack of parking space.

Richmondshire District Council's environment committee approved demolition of the 12-garage block and the building of a terrace of two-bedroomed houses by Tees Valley Housing Group.

Councillor Clive World told the meeting that residents were worried about loss of parking. Some of the garages were still rented and used, and the development would push more vehicles onto already full roadside parking areas.

Members urged officers to try to find garages for the displaced tenants before work began.

Plans for two Tees Valley Housing Group houses following demolition of council garages at Blue Nile Way, Colburn, were also supported.

The committee also backed plans for the housing association to build three bungalows at Colville Crescent, Colburn, once details of footpaths and drainage are finalised.
