Darlington Primary Care Trust (PCT) has brought in training experts to help its support staff understand medical terminology.
Employees ranging from administrators to secretaries have learnt about various body systems and terminology, some in Latin, to develop their medical knowledge.
The courses, including analysis of cardio-vascular, digestive, reproductive and respiratory organs, are designed to give staff a greater understanding.
Lisa Ferguson, a secretary at Darlington PCT, said: "I thought the course was brilliant and really easy to understand.
"A lot of the words are Latin but when it was explained how to break them down, the meaning became obvious."
