CHILDREN are being invited to take part in a family activity day in Hartlepool later this month.
The Davy Jones' Locker Area at the Maritime Archaeology Resource Centre in Sir William Gray House is hosting the day on Wednesday, February 19.
Children will be able to learn some of the skills , including drawing, recording information and research, needed by archaeologists exploring the mysteries of the sea.
In addition, they can try being a "Sherloctopus" detective and discover Hartlepool wrecks, ancient cannons and maritime flags.
There will also be an opportunity to excavate part of a wreck, record and photograph finds, as well as creating a Sherloctopus character.
Davy Jones' Locker is a new facility which is available for booking by groups interested in learning about the work of a maritime archaeologist.
It is jointly run by Tees Archaeology and Hartlepool Borough Council's arts and museums service.
During the activity day there will be three sessions, each lasting two hours and costing £1.50 per child.
All children must be accompanied by an adult, who can take part for free. Places must be booked by calling (01429) 890000.
