POLICE have named a woman found dead in a Stockton flat on Wednesday.

Katrina Evans, 20, of no fixed address, was found in a flat in Leybourne Terrace, Stockton. She had recently been released from prison. A post-mortem examination proved inconclusive and an inquest is expected to be opened soon.

A 30-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of supplying heroin has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

MEETING THE CHALLENGE: The charities committee of St Michael's School, in Billingham, has risen to a challenge set by school chaplain Jane Cook to raise £2,000 for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association in a year. The 25-member committee has raised enough money to sponsor a dog, and yesterday, the money was presented to a puppy walker during a visit to the school.

HISTORICAL WALK: The lives of Lord Furness, Sir William Gray and other figures responsible for helping develop Hartlepool will be revealed during a walk led by Steve Robbins around the town's West Park area, on Sunday, February 16. FIRE DAMAGE: A fire in a Redcar flat destroyed the lounge and caused smoke damage to 40 per cent of the rest of the building in the town's Burnmoor Close, on Wednesday.

NEW CAR PARK: Royal Mail has applied to Stockton Borough Council for permission to build a car park on the site of the former Rocket pub, in Durham Road, Stockton.
