DARLINGTON became the latest victims of bottom-of-the-table Swansea City's recent revival when they went down 1-0 in South Wales on Tuesday night.

It was a second successive defeat for the Quakers, whose scheduled home match against Cambridge United last Saturday was postponed.

Caretaker manager Mick Tait was disappointed with the level of commitment shown by his side, who failed to seriously test the Swans' defence.

The only goal of the game came after 37 minutes when Kevin Nugent, on loan from Leyton Orient, scored his third goal in as many games.

He steered home a cross, with the assistant referee ruling the ball had crossed the line despite Craig Liddle's desperate attempt to clear.

Ian Clark returned to the side in place of Richard Offiong, whose loan spell has ended, but it was his strike partner Barry Conlon who came closest to getting on the scoresheet.

He shot wide early in the first half and saw a goal-bound effort cleared off the line after the break.

But it was a disappointing result for Quakers, whose hopes of a promotion play-off place have now disappeared, barring a dramatic improvement in form.

In fact, their main motivation will now be to steer clear of the relegation rocks. They are still eight points clear of the drop zone, but can't afford to have a bad run of results.

They have another tough assignment tomorrow with the visit of second-placed Rushden and Diamonds to Feethams and are then at home to Rochdale - currently three points behind Quakers - in a rearranged fixture on Tuesday night.
