Durham County Super League:

Horden began their quest to repeat a Championship win when they easily overcame the visiting newcomers from Shildon B. However the visitors did perform better than many of the teams playing the formidable Horden side last season for they managed to take four points.

Horden had two wins from Paul Hickman and James Evans with Steve Nixon, John Bourne, Tommy Foster, Darren Jones, Jed Evans and Shaun Williams adding one each. The Shildon points came from Paul Fodden with two and one each from Trevor Hannon and Jossie Aldworth.

Crook B are hoping to improve on their runners-up spot of last season and began the new campaign with a good home victory over Newton Aycliffe, who only managed two points, with one of those coming when Les Scott potted the black and went in-off. The visitors had points from Craig Little and Richie Bellwod, whilst for the home team Darren Tinkler, David Stephenson, John Mason and Gavin Witton scored two points each with John Warriner, Les Scott, Gerald Parkin and Richard Walker adding one each.

The newcomers from Tow Law visited Ferryhill and went to five each before they fell apart and dropped the remaining points to lose 9-5. Ferryhill had two points each for Steve Wray, Colin Murray and Terry Wray with Phil Cox, Steve Webster and Simon Corbridge adding one each. For the Lawyers, John Beveridge, Stephen Turner, David Craggs, Lee Cullinan and Malcolm Umpelby scored one each.

Results: Ferryhill 9 Tow Law 5; Crook B 12 Newton Aycliffe 2; Horden 10 Shildon B 4.

Durham and District League

The League Knockout Cup matches were seriously hit by the weather, although in those played, Sacriston Daisy Hill whitewashed Esh McKennas, whilst Coxhoe Club beat Ushaw Moor Winnings and Durham DLI beat Bowburn Hare and Greyhound by the same score of 7-4.

In the league, Sacriston Daisy Hill recorded a good win over the visiting Durham Woodman, who only managed to collect two points when Lee Mavin and Ian Bertram won. The Durham County three teams, Men's A and B and Ladies teams, have been issued with their fixtures for the Region One Inter Counties League.

The list reads: 9 February home to Northumberland; 16 March away to Humberside; 18 May away to East Yorkshire; 8 June home to Cleveland; 6 July away to South Yorkshire; 10 August away to Northumberland; 14 September home to Humberside; 14 December away to Cleveland. The home and away matches against North Yorkshire have yet to be arranged.

Willington League

The removal of all the results involving Willington Commercial, which is currently closed, has had little implication on the top teams, as all had beaten the Commercial by roughly the same score, except for Hunwick Club, who had not played them.

Hunwick Club lost the chance of closing the gap on the leading Willington Brewer's Droop A when they travelled to Willington Lion and Unicorn and lost by the odd point. This gave the Unicorn the chance of pulling back into the race for the runners-up spot as they are nine points behind Hunwick Club with a match in hand. However the Brewer's Droop A lead the table by four points but have played two matches less that Hunwick Club.

The Lion and Unicorn went ahead at home to Hunwick Club when Joe Bolam won but the visitors edged ahead with wins from Paul Maddison and Nigel Laws. Paul Williams and Alan Lee senior restored the home lead but Ian Richardson left the match all sqaure after the singles. The first two doubles were shared but the Lion and Unicorn went to victory when Paul King and Alan Lee senior beat Robert Todd and Paul Maddison in the deciding doubles.

In the only other match played Hunwick Quarry edged through their home match against Willington Brewer's Droop B by the odd point, a result which did not improve the Brewer's wooden spoon position.

The revised league table with the Willington Commercial results removed reads:

Spennymoor League

Spennymoor Quinns Inn held on to their early lead in the table after they won by two points at Spennymoor Railway A to stay one ahead of Spennymoor Black Horse, who only dropped a couple of points to the visiting Spennymoor Crown. The Horse are four points ahead of the league's newcomers from Low Spennymoor Victoria, with all three teams unbeaten. However Spennymoor Football Club share the third spot with the newcomers, whilst the unbeaten Spennymoor Salvin Arms are two points behind but have a match in hand.

The Railway A only managed one singles points against the visiting Quinns Inn when Kevin Malloy won, whilst the visitors had wins from D. Elliott, J. Ball, S. Lynn and P. Carr. The home side closed the gap when T. Greener and R. Irwin took the first doubles but the Quinns ensured their victory when J. Ball and P. Carr took the second doubles. In the captain's game, the Railway's C. White beat D. Elliott.

Results: Coxhoe red Lion 7 Spennymoor Pit Laddie 1; Spennymoor Hillingdon A 5 Spennymoor Railway B 3; Spennymoor Railway A 3 Spennymoor Quinns Inn 5; Spennymoor Football Club 7 Spennymoor White Horse 1; Spennymoor Voltigeur 3 Spennymoor Hillingdon B 5; Spennymoor Black Horse 6 Spennymoor Crown 2; Low Spennymoor Victoria 5 Spennymoor Half Moon 3.
