ARTWORK by pupils at Abbey Infant School, in Darlington, has created a colourful story area in the entrance.
The six and seven-year-old year two pupils created designs around a countryside scheme.
They were enlarged and turned into a mural by artist Fran Connelly to blend with a school scene which was already there.
With the addition of bookshelves disguised as bushes, child-sized seating, a few cuddly friends and some new books, the school entrance has been transformed into a magical storytelling area to be used by small groups.
Headteacher Elaine McCue said: "We are delighted with our new story telling area.
"It has only been possible because of the hard work of our Parents and Friends Association. The children designed the pictures and are excited at the thought of using the area."
Lou Brown, vice-chair of the association, said: "We organise many fundraising events throughout the year and share the money raised equally between the infant and junior schools.
"It is terrific to see the cash being spent on something so imaginative which so many of the children can enjoy.
