A TEENAGER who re-enacted a murder scene from the horror movie Scream and left his friend for dead has launched a new bid to clear his name.

Robert Fuller and his friend Daniel Gill were found guilty of attempted murder at Hull Crown Court, in 1999.

The pair, both from Harrogate, stabbed victim Ashley Murray 18 times before leaving him at an isolated North Yorkshire beauty spot.

He was found 40 hours later by a man out walking his dog.

Despite suffering appalling injuries, he was able to recover enough to testify against his attackers in court.

Robert Fuller, who was 15 at the time of the attack, has already lost one appeal.

Last night, his Leeds-based solicitor, Majeed Mohammed, said: "We would argue that he was wrongly convicted.

"Fresh evidence has now been put before the Criminal Review Commission and they will make a decision on whether to refer it to the Court of Appeal."

Fuller, who has been released from jail on licence, and Gill, who was 14, were both sentenced to be detained for six years.

Their victim lived in Harrogate at the time of the attack, but has since left the town with his family.

His mother, Joanne Murray, said she did not want to comment on the development but said she would be studying details of what was happening and speaking to the police.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Probation Service said: "Everyone concerned with this case has every sympathy with Ashley Murray and his family for the suffering they have been through.

"Whatever people might think about the decisions which have now been taken in relation to Robert Fuller, it is the duty of the service to discharge its statutory responsibilities."

Gill was released last year.

Fuller's legal representatives are confident his conviction can be overturned.

During the 13-day trial at Hull Crown Court, it was said that Gill and Fuller had watched Scream before attacking Ashley.
