A REGIONAL project designed to help school leavers has won national acclaim.
Uproject, run by Connexions County Durham has been praised by the New Opportunities Fund as the most successful of almost 50 similar projects nationally and is to set the standard for other schemes.
The Lottery-funded Uproject, at Windlestone Hall, near Bishop Auckland, aims to recruit 300 school leavers a year who have no definite plans to continue education or go into training or employment.
Activities offered by the project, which started in April last year, include hiking, climbing, kayaking and abseiling as well as arts, music and environmental activities.
All are designed to develop self esteem, confidence and key skills.
