YOUNGSTERS were able to become archaeologists for the day yesterday.
A family fun day was held at Davy Jones' Locker at the Maritime Archaeology Resource Centre in Hartlepool's Sir William Gray House.
Children learnt some of the skills of an archaeologist exploring the mysteries of the sea. They become Sherloctopus detectives and found out about Hartlepool wrecks, cannons and maritime flags.
There was also a chance to excavate part of a wreck, photograph and record finds, and make a Sherloctopus character.
Davy Jones' Locker, run by Tees Archaeology and Hartlepool Borough Council's arts and museums service, can be booked by groups interested in learning and discovering some of the skills of a maritime archaeologist.
