A thief is targeting elderly people in Eston, Normanby and South Bank, police have warned.

The woman has been admitted to properties after asking if she could use the phone or shelter from the cold while she waited for a friend. Once inside, she has stolen purses, jewellery and other personal items. She has also targeted homes in the Nunthorpe and North Ormesby areas of Middlesbrough. She is white, in her early 20s, 5ft 3in with shoulder-length fair hair and a local accent. Anyone with information is asked to call PC Chris Marchant, of Cleveland Police, on (01642) 302626.

COFFEE MORNING: The Friends of Rievaulx group is holding a coffee morning on Wednesday, from 10am to 11.30am, at the St John of God, Rievaulx Resource Centre, Rievaulx Avenue, Billingham. The event is in aid of the centre, which supports people with learning disabilities.

RAISING FUNDS: The friends of Redcar Town Clock are asking for prizes to for a tombola to help them raise funds. People can take donations to the kiosk next to the town clock from 10am on Saturday.

WARD SMILES: Students from the University of Teesside brought a smile to children's faces when they visited the children's ward at the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton. The students took part in a variety activities including helping the youngsters with a painting competition.
