A GARDEN designed by student Sarah Ali Shaikh Lloyd, of Askham Bryan College, near York, is to be recreated at one of the world's largest flower shows this summer.

The entry, at the Hampton Court Flower Show, was a "dream come true", said Sarah, who is studying garden design at the college. She said she and the college team know a lot of work was involved, but added: "We are keeping our fingers crossed that we can come home with one of the coveted medals."

ANNUAL MEETING: The annual meeting of the Northallerton and District Diabetic Club will be held next Thursday, after an earlier date was cancelled because of bad weather. The meeting will be in the Friarage Hospital, at 7.30pm. Adults with diabetes, carers and the parents of sufferers are invited.

BAN CONSIDERED: A plan to stop lorries using Bishopthorpe, near York, as a short-cut by banning them from several roads is to be re-examined by highways officials. However, local head of highway regulation Peter Evely said any ban would be virtually unenforceable.

TAX RISE: Scarborough Borough Council is to increase its portion of the council tax by 8.5 per cent - half a per cent more than planned. The overall increase for households will be 16 per cent, mainly as a result of increased precepts by police and the county council.

SAFETY WORK: Work will start on Tuesday around the entrance of Skelton Primary School, near York, to create a 20mph safety zone.
