A WOMAN has been nominated for a national award in recognition of her voluntary work.
Samantha Lambird, 25, of Belford Gardens, Darlington is the regional winner in the Millennium Volunteer of the Year awards.
Ms Lambird, who is in the finals for the national title, is a volunteer with Darlington YMCA Millennium Volunteers Project.
She won her award for her role as secretary of Springfield Tenants' and Residents' Association.
Judges heard about the residents' association's work in the community including road safety campaigns, setting up a mediation service for neighbours and improving crime prevention.
She will pick up her award from Ivan Lewis, minister for young people, in London on March 3.
