SCHOOLGIRL Abby Kirkham is holding a bring-and-buy sale to help to provide clean water in African villages.
Abby, ten, of Langley Park, was moved by the plight of children in Tanzania and Uganda whose nearest safe supply is sometimes miles from home.
She decided to back the WaterWorks appeal being run by the BBC children's programme Blue Peter to raise £500,000 for the international charity WaterAid.
The money raised will help provide clean water for 30,000 villagers in the two countries.
Abby, who attends Durham High School, will hold her bring and buy sale a week today, Saturday, February 22, from 10am to noon in Langley Park Community Centre, Church Road.
"It's absolutely everything, from toys, books to clothes and furniture,'' said her mum Carol.
"She was watching Blue Peter and said she thought we had to do something to help these children. She is a very caring girl."
