NORTH-EAST endurance athletes showed they had big hearts when they handed over the proceeds of a sponsored event.
The team from Durham competed in the Ironman Triathlon in Germany to raise money for two youngsters.
Nicholas Cornwell, three, and four-year-old Bethany Davison both have cerebral palsy.
The team of Bryan Russell, Billy Cousins, Paul Rogers and Steve Seddon handed over cheques for £1,265 to both families to help them pay for treatment and specialist equipment.
Bethany's father, Mick Davison, a police officer in Sedgefield, said: "We are taking Bethany to London in April for intensive physiotherapy. The money will help pay for that and towards getting a bike for her."
The triathlon team will represent Great Britain in a race in Ibiza in May. The race consists of a 4km run, 120km bike ride and 30km run.
