A VILLAGE post office has been recognised for its commitment to customer care with an award from the Yorkshire Independent Grocers' Association.
Kate Ellwood was presented with the award for Best Local Post Office after being nominated by customers in Barton, near Darlington. She received the award from Bill Earnshaw, of Post Office Counters.
The award was one of 18 presented at a gala dinner in Harrogate, to acknowledge the best in local shops and produce in the region, with categories including Local Product of the Year and Best Farm Shop.
It was the first year that the Local Shops Awards had been held and the evening was a tremendous success, said association secretary Peter Brant.
