A MAN arrested by armed police in a residential area of Darlington has been charged with drink driving and other motoring offences.

The 36-year-old man, who has not been named by police, will appear at Darlington Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

He was arrested when a car he was travelling in was stopped by police, in Gladstone Street, Darlington, at 5pm on Wednesday.

The police, acting on a tip- off, believed the man and another in the same car, were carrying firearms, but none was recovered. The 36-year-old man, who was originally from Darlington now lives in the North-West.

A 22-year-old man from Richmond, North Yorkshire, arrested at the same time, was bailed pending further inquiries.
