Darlington Simply Lasses

A very hard pitch and freezing conditions did nothing to deter Darlington Simply Lasses and Norton & Stockton Ancients from another of their fiercely-fought contest.

For the first ten minutes there was very little to choose between the two teams but it was Darlington who took the lead.

Kerry Denham carried on her scoring run from the last match and placed a carefully flighted freekick into the top of Norton's net in the tenth minute.

Into the second period and this time it was Norton who scored when Darlington's keeper was unable to hang onto a shot making the score level at 1-1. In the third period Darlington looked to have the game tied up after Kellie Cox, who had a superb game in midfield this time after being outstanding in goal in the last game, scored twice within a few minutes. For her first she collected the ball in midfield and went past two hard tackles before balancing herself to aim a hard shot beyond the reach of the NASA keeper.

Just a short while later she again picked up the ball in midfield and accurately placed another hard shot into the back of the away side's net, making it 3-1 in favour of Darlington.

In the final period however Norton came right back into the game, scoring first with a fine shot from a narrow angle and then again two minutes from time when Darlington's defence failed to clear a bouncing ball from their area to make the final score 3-3.Norton's goals were scored by Emily Wilson, Rebecca Saliki and Philippa Thomas. Players of match were Kellie Cox (Darlington) and Emily Wilson (Norton).

Darlington Spraire Lasses

Playing at home to Marton, the Under-14s lost a highly competitive and entertaining game. Marton nearly opened the scoring in the first minute with the ball hitting the post before going out for a goal kick.

Spraire kept Marton at bay with some strong defending from Lauren Claxton and Laura Spence and excellent goalkeeping from Spraire player of the match Katie McTague. Marton's pressure paid dividends taking the lead in the 13th minute with a well taken strike. Spraire levelled the scoring within a minute with a goal from Spraire top scorer Laura Gowling.

Spraire made changes in the second quarter bringing on defender Tanya Shires and Joanna Dinsdale up front. Captain Rachel McKnight made an excellent run through midfield only to have her shot saved by the Marton keeper. Marton playing with determination ran riot hitting three goals in eight minutes leaving Spraire with little chance of a comeback. Spraire refused to throw in the towel and came back after the break with a superbly taken goal by Jordan Atkinson following a neat passing move by Helen McTague. Marton opened the gap again in the 38th minute with a low drive to the bottom corner of goal.

A solo effort by Jordan Atkinson running right through midfield gave Spraire some hope taking the score to 3-5 but were unable to break down a strong Marton defence in the final minutes.

The Under-14s Lasses lost 9-0 to Blyth and player of the match was Danni Shut.

Marton took maximum points in a highly competitive game, having took the lead 13 minutes into the game. Spraire equalised a minute later through leading scorer Laura Gowling. Spraire had several chances but it was Marton who ran riot scoring three goals in eight minutes. Spraire refused to throw the towel in and came back after the break with a goal from Jordan Atkinson. Marton extended the lead again on 38 minutes only to see Spraire respond with a second from Jordan Atkinson. corers for Marton were Jade Orton and player of the match Rebecca Robinson who netted four. Player of the match for Spraire was Katie McTague.

The first ten minutes saw very little between the two teams but it was Simply who broke the deadlock through a carefully flighted freekick from Kerry Denham. The second period of play saw Norton equalise and the score remained level at half time. In the third period it looked as though Simply had the game sewn up when Kellie Cox scored twice within a few minutes. In the final period of play Norton came right back into the game and equalised to take a share of the points. Scorers for Norton were Rebecca Saliki, Phillipa Thomas and Emily Wilson who also took the player of the match award for Norton. Player of the match for Simply was awarded to Kellie Cox.

St. Francis 2000 1 v 3 Bill. Girls

A very entertaining game of football played by two sporting teams saw some end-to-end football with St. Francis dominating the first three periods of play but they were unable to convert their chances. Billingham came strong at the end of the game to run out 3-1 winners with goals coming from Amy Plummer, Jessica Close and Theresa Richards for Billingham and for St. Francis Sarah Rowbotham. Player of the match awards went to Christina Corner for the home team and Beth Matteson for the visitors.

M'brough FITC 11 v 0 Barnard Castle

Middlesbrough took maximum points against a very game Barnard Castle side. Girl of the match for Barnard Castle, Danielle Scarr, was prominent and only a fine save from the Middlesbrough keeper kept the Barnard Castle girls off the scoresheet, but as the game went on the girls tired. Scorers for Middlesbrough were Becky Stephenson who netted six with some clinical finishing, girl of the match Jess Hughes netted a hat-trick and goals from Rachel Duncan and Gemma Cowell completed the scoring.

Seaton Carew 0 v 9 Stock. West End

Scorers for Stockton were Olivia Inman, Rebecca Moore, and Rebekah Jennings who scored one each and player of the match Sara Ellis who netted six for the visitors. Player of the match for Seaton was awarded to Jessica Coates.

Under-12s North

Blyth Town 3 v 0 Newcastle

This match started off at a fast pace with both teams looking to score the first goal. Blyth scored their first goal late into the first period of play from Rebecca McGinley. Newcastle played some good football but just could not break down the Blyth defence, Blyth counter attacked and hit the post twice, and the Newcastle keeper was making some excellent saves, keeping the score at 1-0 at half time. In the third period of play Blyth extended their lead through Claire Pitt. The final goal came in the final period of play with a second from Rebecca McGinley who was also awarded player of the match for Blyth with Jane Latif taking the award for Newcastle.

SAFC 24/7 Girls 6 v 0 So. Durham Ro.

A hard-fought game between these two teams with neither side able to score in the first period of play. In the second period Sunderland opened the scoring with both keepers having plenty to do the score remained 1-0 at half time. After the break Sunderland added a further two goals and went into the final period of play 3-0 up. Sunderland added another three goals in the final period of play. Player of the match awards went to Abby Holmes for Sunderland and for South Durham Rebecca Patterson.

Under-13s

Blyth Town 14 v 1 North Shields

Blyth started well and were 6-0 up by the end of the first period and this was probably their best period of the game. Blyth continued to apply the pressure but credit to North Shields they battled on for the full game and were rewarded with a consolation goal. Player of the match awards went to Rachel Lee for Blyth and for North Shields Charlotte Elliot.

Under-14s

St. Francis 1 v 6 Marton

St. Francis were unfortunate not to be able to field a full side against a well-organised team. Goals for Marton were scored by Abby Lyle (3), Rebecca Hanratty (2) and Angela Armstrong with the player of the match award going to Scarlett Crow and for the home team Kelly Daley. Although the score was 6-1 to Marton the home side must be wondering when their luck might change.

N'castle Juniors 6 v 3 Lumley Lasses

The game started with both teams playing good football and creating chances, but it was Newcastle who scored first after Lumley's goal kick fell to Danielle Clasper who slotted the ball into the net. Lumley created chances to make their way back into the match but only converted one of them half-time 3-1. The second half Lumley deserved to get back into the match but failed to convert their chances. Newcastle reshuffled and scored two quick goals to extend their lead. Lumley then scored twice to reduce the deficit only to see Newcastle score again seconds after the restart. A great game of football played in good spirit. Player of the match awards went to Sarah Rerrie for Newcastle and Joanne Levy.

Under-18s

Marton 11 v 0 Boldon

Scorers for Marton were Victoria Longster (2), Lauren Sedgwick (2), Carley Jameson, Katie Parkin and five for player of the match Lucy Martin. Player of the match for the visitors went to Amy Houghton.
