The heavy overnight frost played havoc with last Saturday's fixtures, only five matches being played.

In the premier division Killingworth Arms moved into third spot having won 3-1 against relegation candidates Sunderland Catholic Club. Killingworth had the better of the first half and led 1-0 at the interval. The restart was of a similar pattern and in 65 minutes Martin Henderson scored with a fine run in which he beat three opponents to put Killingworth 2-0 up. This further reverse spurred the home side on and they came back strongly and Gordon Hall pulled on back with a fine solo effort. The Catholic Club now pushed all forward and Killingworth had to defend desperately. It was anybody's game but in the dying minutes the visitors were awarded a penalty which Henderson slotted home to give the visitors a 3-1 victory.

In division one Northumberland side Marden won 1-0 at home to Newton Aycliffe and now are in fifth place and with games in hand of the teams above looked to have an excellent chance of promotion. Hall scored to give them a first half lead and although no further goals were scored Marden were always in control of the game and never looked like losing.

In division three Whitley Bay won 3-1 at home against Regency Windows and still have an outside hope of promotion if any of the top teams slip up.

In division four Oddies won 3-1 away to Toll Bar and are clear leaders (seven points) and have games in hand and have only dropped two points in 13 games and are odds on certainties for promotion.

Wynyard Old Boys drew 0-0 away to Marsden Vets in a game which ended in a battle of two defences and very few scoring chances for the Old Boys. Andy McLuskey and Kenny Brabbham shone in defence. Ian Mason starred in midfield but the man of the match was Philadelphia Douglas who worked tirelessly both in defence and attack but just could nto manage that elusive goal.
