OnSunday at Gateshead Leisure Centre the Under-15 and Under-19 Durham County Championships took place.

In the girls Under-15 events the star was Jennifer Blewitt of Aycliffe who, in the singles, overcame favourites Ruth Mackenzie of Chester-le-Street and Stefanie Thompson of Aycliffe easily with only Sarah Boyle of Durham (21-18) providing tough competition.

Jennifer then teamed with Sarah Boyle in the girls doubles to win easily again beating the favourites Mackenzie and Thompson 21-8.

In the mixed doubles Jennifer partnered Durham's Scott Carnell to come a credible second only losing to the winners Cook of Sunderland and MacKenzie 21-20 to complete an excellent day for this young player.

The boys saw Cook winning all three disciplines with Carnell a close second. Darlington's Scott Iveson and Ian Defty both played well reaching the semi finals in the singles and the finals in the boys doubles losing 21-7 to the county first pairing of Cook and Carnell.

The Under-19 competition was again dominated by Louise Trueman of Darlington in the girls and Adam Coulson of Sunderland in the boys.

Louise defended her singles title ruthlessly losing only four points in four matches showing why, as a 16-year-old she is on the County Senior First team.

In the girls doubles, partnering Kirsty Whitehouse, she met real competition when playing Helen MacCleod of Sunderland and Hayley Robson of Cleadon but won 21-20 to take the title.

She partnered Adam Coulson and they swept aside the competition, beating last year's winners James Winfield of Aycliffe and Helen MacCleod 21-9 in the semi finals and Darlington's David Shariff and Hayley Robson who had excelled to reach the finals 21-6.

In the boys competition Adam Coulson won the singles beating Knox of Sunderland 21-19 in the finals. Knox had previously beaten Shildon's Daniel Smith 21-14 in the semis after Smith had won his previous games easily.

Coulson then teamed up with his older brother Duncan and took the doubles title easily before winning the mixed with Louise.
