Chester-le-Street Town

LEADERS Chester-le-Street Town Juniors recorded their seventh straight league win and their fourth clean sheet in five outings in when they won at Prudhoe Town in the Fairs Software Tyneside Junior League on Saturday afternoon.

Michael Renshaw opened the scoring on 17 minutes when he scored from close range after good work by Harry Flynn. Paul McDonald then weighed in with two quick goals to score for the seventh consecutive game and take his tally to 15 goals.

After the interval the Cestrians wasted several gilt edged chances to put the home side out of sight before substitutes Mark Rome and Steven Dawson both found the net with good efforts. Final score: 5-0.

Manager Andrew Muxworthy was not happy that the game was played but was nevertheless pleased with the points. He said: "I feel we would have won by a bigger margin on a better playing surface. I asked the referee to call the game off because I felt the pitch was potentially a dangerous surface for the players. The referee said game on, there have been no serious injuries so he has been proved right. We have another five games to go and like Redheugh and Walker, we are in with a shout for the championship."

Chester: Beckwith, G.Draper, R.Draper, Flynn, Haggon, Lowther, Murray (Dawson 64), McDonald (Liddle 64), Adamson (Rome 53), Renshaw, Smith. Subs not used: Taylor, Watson.
