Division One

Bedale FC 4 v 1 Thornaby FC

The top two teams in the first division clashed. After a first half of entertaining football, which brought no change to the score line, five goals were scored in the last 22 minutes of the match. Paul Taite gave Bedale the lead in the 68th minute, added a second in the 71st minute and completed an uninterrupted hat trick in the 80th minute, to take his tally to 18 for the season.

Thornaby pulled what turned out to be a late consolation goal back through Neil Preston in the 80th minute, before Adam Bramley with his 17th of the season completed the scoring with only a minute left on the watch to take all three points and take a four point lead over their visitors, but who have three games in hand, they lead third placed Grangetown by six points, they also have three games in hand, and lead Nunthorpe by nine points, but they have four games in hand.

Carlin How 2 v 2 Fishburn Park

A pitch inspection just before the game passed the pitch fit to play; visitors Fishburn Park were the dominant force for the opening five minutes, with Duncan Marson casing a number of problems for the Carlin How defence, so it was no surprise when Fishburn took the lead when a cross by Dominic Gamble should have been cleared by Graham Butters in the home side goal, but he missed his punch and the ball fell to Danny Brown who slotted home from six yards. Five minutes later Carlin How were back on level terms, but much against the run of play when a Steve Starsmore free kick found an unmarked Jason Draper ten yards out who scored on his return from suspension with a overhead kick.

A cross from Nicky Anderson saw Phil Peggs and the Fishburn keeper jumping up for the ball and the keeper pushed the ball onto the back of Peggs head and into the goal, Paul Buck cleared the ball but an assistant referees flag indicated the ball had crossed the line.

The visitors then started to get back on top and it was again no surprise when they drew level in the 87th minute when a cross into the box saw the ball and mud flying around the box, before the ball fell to Michael Young who fired home the equaliser.

Wolviston Res 7 v 0 Whitby Town Res

Another side have pitch problems are Wolviston, who asked Whitby Town reserves to stage their home match as they needed to get a match under their belt as they have only played 13 league matches so far this season. Wolviston were well on top for the opening half hour and took the lead in the 10th minute when a Greg Cattermole free kick was swung in for Ian Thompson to head home the opener. Both team were trying to play football on a difficult pitch and Wolviston increased their lead to 2-0 in the 22nd minute when man of the match Craig Leslie was pulled back when he broke into the Whitby penalty area, and he stepped up to put away the penalty. Four minutes later another cross from Cattermole was looped over Tom Griggs in the Whitby goal by one of his own players, half time 3-0. Thompson grabbed his second and third, Chris Murray, Chris Homer completed the scoring.

North Riding County Cup

Acklam SW 0 v 1 Nunthorpe Ath

This was the second meeting of these two fellow Teesside League clubs, Nunthorpe beat Acklam SW 4-1 in the league back in November, and even after this match they have yet to meet on two more occasions, in the League and in the quarter finals of the MacMillan Bowl on the 8th March.

In the second half the match as one would expect was very tight and with the game looking to go into extra time, Nunthorpe were awarded a hotly disputed penalty. But Glynn Swinnerton had his spot kick saved by Acklam keeper Paul Mansfield, but after the intervention of one of the assistant referees, the kick was ordered to be retaken as is was alleged that the keeper moved well before the kick was taken, from the resulting second penalty kick, Swinnerton booked a berth in the final against Grangetown Boys Club.

Redcar Town 0 v 1 Grangetown BC

This match was switched to Grangetown as the Wearside League side pitch was unfit, in the first half the Boys Club dominated the play but although they created chances, they failed to convert them. In the second half the match was more evenly balanced but in the 65th minute Ian McGowan, who has scored 24 league goals, gave the Boys Club a slender 1-0 lead.

New Marske SC 1 v 4 Stokesley SC

New Marske Sports Club had to switch their match to Stokesley to get this match under way, and a minute before half time they fell behind when Craig Hutton scored, but right on the stroke of half time New Marske drew level when they awarded a penalty and Parry Jones struck home his first of the season. In the second half Stokesley got on top and it was no surprise when they took the lead in the 50th minute through Ben Escritt, New Marske who had a narrow 2-1 victory over Whitby Town Reserves last week in the same competition, tried to get back in the game but in the 65th minute their heads dropped when James Middleditch with his eigth of the season gave Stokesley a 3-1 lead, 13 minutes later the match was all over when Hutton with his second of the game and second of the season booked a second round match with Thornaby YC.

Teesside Link 2 v 4 Teesside Arriva

Thornaby side Teesside Link hopes of staging this match was scuppered when the referee deemed their pitch unplayable, they agreed to Hartlepool visitors Teesside Arriva' request to play through at Hartlepool and both teams and the three match officials travelled through to get the match played.

In an entertaining game Teesside Arriva took a ninth minute lead through Glen Watson who was returning back to the game after a three-month injury problem. Andrew Harrow pulled it back to 1-1 in the 22nd minute, but Watson grabbed his second of the game and 4th of the season to give Arriva a 2-1 half time lead. In the second half Teesside Link fought back and drew level at 2-2 in the 62nd minute through Chris Manuel, two minutes later the match turned in favour of Arriva when they were awarded a penalty and Lee Haggan made no mistake with his fourth of the season to make it 3-1. A minute later Arriva booked a semi-final match against Whinney Banks after Paul Hill scored his 2nd of the season.
