CHILDREN have the chance to learn more about the life of explorer Captain James Cook with exhibitions at local libraries.
The displays, which will form part of a touring exhibition visiting each of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's 13 libraries, tell how Captain Cook has had an impact on society from the 18th-century up to the present day.
Pat Clarke, children's librarian at Redcar Library, said: "Captain Cook is without doubt Cleveland's most famous son and with this exhibition we hope to celebrate his achievements and make his story come alive to a new generation."
Redcar's lending library and upstairs reference library has displays of Captain Cook books and information along with artefacts from Kirkleatham Museum, including a ship's wheel and journey plotters.
Visitors are also being encouraged to visit the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum in Marton.
The exhibition timetable for Redcar and Cleveland libraries is: March, Loftus and Guisborough; April, Skelton and Roseberry Square, Redcar; May, Dormanstown and South Bank; June, Ormesby and Laburnum Road, Redcar; July, Grangetown and Saltburn; August, Marske and Brotton.
