Drugs squad officers are celebrating a £100,000 haul of narcotics from a house on Teesside.

Police in Stockton are hailing the recovery of ecstasy tablets, cocaine, amphetamines, cannabis and steroids from a house in Norton as a major victory against local dealers.

Friday night's raid saw officers seize drugs including seven thousand Ecstasy tablets, some of them packed into batches of ten, 20 and 100, nearly nine kilos of cannabis and more than a kilo of cocaine.

Police also recovered some so-called designer drugs, including steroids, and around £4,000 in cash.

Two people, a man and a woman, both in their 30s, were arrested during the raid, in Sommerset Road, and taken to Stockton police station for questioning. Meanwhile, the drugs seized were taken away for testing.

Detective Superintendent Brian Dunn, of Stockton Police, said: "This is a very good haul for us and we hope this has made a serious dent in the amount of drugs on the streets of Stockton.

"In seizing 7,000 Ecstasy tablets we can be sure that we have stopped them being sold in the town over the weekend. Had they got onto the streets then we could now be dealing with a death.

"Stockton Drugs Unit has recovered more than £1m in the last two years and this latest represents a good result.

"We know who the next targets are but they don't. They will have to wait for the knock on the door."

District Commander Chief Superintendent John Tuft praised the intelligence operation that led to the haul.

He added: "There was a disconcerting cocktail of drugs found at this address which were no doubt bound for the streets of Stockton.

"We will continue to target dealer networks, the supply chains and distribution channels."
