VIKING warriors battled it out at the weekend as part of an annual celebration of the Scandinavian invaders' influence on the region.
Dozens of people dressed as Viking warriors and raced to win the Longships River challenge, which is held every year on the River Ouse, to find the fastest vessel.
The race is part of the Yorvik Viking Festival, which draws hundreds of people to the historical city of York, and this year's event was no exception.
People travelled from Norway, Ireland and all over England, and competitors took to the water in Viking vessels between Ouse Bridge and Skeldergate Bridge.
The festival climaxed on Saturday evening with the Death in the Dark event, which is a Viking battle around the Eye of York and Clifford's Tower.
