Caretaker boss Mick Tait could do little but offer a few words of sympathy for Gary Pearson after his sending off in the closing stages of yesterday's goalless draw at Wrexham.

The versatile player received his marching orders for a second bookable offence after what seemed to be a clean challenge.

"It was very disappointing to see Gary get sent off," said Tait.

"I spoke to the referee at half time because by then he'd already booked a few players.

"I asked him then what he was seeing from everybody else because there hadn't been a bad tackle.

"If he's going to book players as easy as that then it's obvious some players are going to get sent off.

"Gaz put in a great performance in midfield.

"He's worked up and down, tracked people all day and for him to get sent off for something like that is obviously very frustrating."

While there was no repeat result of when the sides last met at the Racecourse Ground - when Quakers claimed an impressive 2-0 FA Cup win back in November - Tait's side once again proved that they're more than capable of mixing it with the best.

"It's a hard place to come but we've been here twice now and not conceded a goal," said Tait

"I think in the Cup we probably had more of a cutting edge than we had today and that's what's probablylet us down a little bit. We've got to be pleased with getting a point because they're a very good side.

"These are one of the Division's better sides so to come here twice now and not lose is very pleasing.

"We had hoped to catch them on the break but that's something which we didn't do today.

"I was pleased with our defenders and the midfield worked really hard."

Tait was also full of praise for stand-in striker Matt Clarke, deputising for the suspended Barry Conlon.

"I thought Matt did a great job for us today," said Tait.

"He worked all along the front line and was always putting the defenders under pressure."
