A NORTH-EAST MP was arrested on Saturday by special police officers - but all to promote the work of the special constabulary.
Frank Cook, MP for Stockton North, took part in the event, which was part of a weekend of activities throughout the Cleveland force area designed to highlight the contribution made by the 85 specials who give their services free.
Mr Cook said: "I was delighted to support the specials. They do a great job. For some it is a stepping stone to becoming a regular police officer, but for others it is a way of making a personal contribution to the local community."
During the weekend, each policing district in the force area had operations in which the specials were heavily involved. In Stockton, they patrolled where anti-social behaviour around licensed premises has caused problems.
