A SCHOOL dinner lady has retired after 25 years of serving youngsters.
Val Burlison has been a dinner lady at Preston Primary School, Stockton, since 1978.
But she served her final meal last week and is now enjoying a well-earned retirement.
Headteacher Shirley Winters says the timing of her departure was perfect because she also celebrated her 65th birthday at the same time.
After presenting Ms Burlison with a silver whistle and plaque at an assembly, she said: "She has been a wonderful dinner lady and all the children will miss her.
"She lives just round the corner though, so I am sure she will be popping round."
