STUDENTS at universities in the region are being given the chance to find a job by using a telephone service.

Thanks to Jobcentre Plus, it will be easier for students at Northumbria and Teesside Universities to find a job at the end of a newly-installed free phone linked directly to the Jobcentre Plus telephone-based jobsearch service, Jobseeker Direct.

The freephone service will give students access to the 300,000 jobs on the Jobcentre Plus database.

Steve Davidson, Tees Valley Jobcentre Plus manager, said: "We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Students' Union at Teesside and Northumbria to give students freephone access to Jobseeker Direct.

"As well as making calls in to our team of advisors to enquire about jobs in general, we can also take details of their experience and the kind of job they are interested in and match that to the vacancies we receive."
