DRUGS squad officers are celebrating after intercepting a £100,000 haul of narcotics from a house on Teesside.

Police are hailing the recovery of a massive haul of Ecstasy tablets, cocaine, cannabis, amphetamines, and steroids from a house in Norton, near Stockton, as a major victory against local dealers.

Friday night's raid saw officers seize drugs, including 7,000 Ecstasy tablets, nearly nine kilos of cannabis and more than a kilo of cocaine.

Police also recovered some so-called designer drugs, including steroids, and about £4,000 in cash.

Two people, a man and a woman, both in their thirties, were arrested during the raid, in Somerset Road, and taken to Stockton police station for questioning. The seized drugs were sent for testing.

Detective Superintendent Brian Dunn, of Stockton police, said: "We hope this has made a serious dent in the amount of drugs on the streets of Stockton.

"In seizing 7,000 Ecstasy tablets, we can be sure that we have stopped them being sold in the town over the weekend. Had they got on to the streets, then we could now be dealing with a death.

"Stockton Drugs Unit has recovered more than £1m worth of drugs in the past two years and this latest haul represents a good result.

"We know who the next targets are, but they don't. They will have to wait for the knock on the door."

District Commander Chief Superintendent John Tough praised the intelligence operation that led to the haul.

He said: "There was a disconcerting cocktail of drugs found at this address which were no doubt bound for the streets of Stockton."
