INFORMATION about how to report crime in the North-East has been translated into 25 languages to help ethnic communities in the region.
The Police Welcome Packs will provide key messages and contacts which are designed to help people from various ethnic backgrounds settle in to the area.
Forces in Northumbria, Cleveland and Durham have teamed up with the North-East consortium for Asylum Support Services (NECASS) to provide the information.
They give advice about how to contact the police, the various types of crime and the powers police have.
Chief Inspector Simon Packham, of Northumbria Police's community safety department, said "Language can often act as a barrier and these packs are designed to welcome everyone to the North-East.
They offer a quick and easy reference guide to people who do not have English as a first language."
The packs are available from police liaison officers trained to deal with issues regarding asylum seekers. They are also available from community centres.
