THE Saltburn in Bloom group is hoping to raise £19,000 so it can take part in the finals of the Britain in Bloom competition.

Saltburn, Marske and New Marske Parish Council has pledged £1,500, with an additional £500 promised by the town's 500 Club. The group is holding a table-top sale, in the community centre, Windsor Road, on Saturday, March 8, from 10am to noon. People are also being invited to sponsor floral displays in the town. ON SONG: Marske Ladies' Lifeboat Guild presents a concert with Marske Fishermen's Choir at New Marske Sports Club next Friday, at 8pm. Tickets cost £2 and all proceeds will go to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. Tickets are available from the club, or at the door.

BABY UNIT: Car Care of Marske has donated a new baby changing unit to Marske Methodist Church for use in the refurbishment of the church hall and main church premises. The unit will bring the toilets up to date and will allow disabled access. The church has thanked Car Care's owners, the Collinson family, for their generosity.

ENGLISH WATERWAYS: Redcar Lecture Society will present an illustrated talk about English Waterways, at the United Reformed Church, Station Road, Redcar, on Tuesday, at 7.30pm. Entry costs £1.25 for non-members.

STILL OPEN: Owners of the Jack in the Box day nursery, in Loftus, have stressed they are still open for business. Parents have heard rumours the nursery is to close, but owner Sue Boyd said: "We're not sure where the rumour started, but we can quite categorically say it's not true." The nursery is based at Redcar and Cleveland College's Loftus centre.

JUMBLE SALE: A jumble sale will be held at The White Horse, in Marske, at 10am tomorrow. Admission is 20p.
