TEN mink farmers put out of business by an Act of Parliament outlawing their trade face an anxious wait in their bid to have a Government compensation scheme declared unlawful.
Outside the High Court, in London, the farmers expressed anger at the scheme after Mr Justice Stanley Burnton reserved his judgement in the case.
The farmers, many of whom now face severe financial hardship, say the scheme, introduced by the Department of Environment, Farming and Rural Affairs is arbitrary and unfair.
Peter Harrison, who farms at Kirkley Mill, Ponteland, Northumberland said the farmers feel they have been unfairly treated by the Government.
Mr Harrison who has worked in the business for 25 years, said he "only wanted what was reasonable and fair".
