South Moor WI: THE president Dora Moore opened the February meeting.

The year started on a very sad note with the death of Mary McPhail, a very dear and long-standing member. Members observed two minutes silence.

Joyce Wright gave a reading of her own choice. The minutes, county letter and correspondence were attended to by Doreen Pearson.

Names were taken for the annual meeting. Tickets were sold for the forthcoming group meeting. Arrangements were made for the birthday night.

June George read the monthly financial statement.

It was a pleasure to have Una Mack, an ex-member of South Moor WI, as the speaker who gave a most interesting talk of the care and facilities at Willow Burn Hospice, Maiden Law, Lanchester. A vote of thanks was given by Vera Soulsby.

The speaker judged the competition for a pre-war kitchen item won by Joyce Wright, 2 June George, 3 Vera Soulsby. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.

Tantobie WI

MRS Smith welcomed ten members and two visitors to the February meeting. Mrs Stacey read the golden thread, A Grandad, and Mrs Smith also read one from the late Doris Wallace collection.

The broth evening and Bring and Buy sale was a great success thanks to Mrs Oliver's broth. Arrangements were made for the visit to the Little theatre.

The raffle was won by Mrs Green and Miss Goodfellow. The competition for a musical ornament was won by Mrs Green first, Mrs Smith second and Miss Goodfellow third.

Beth Williams gave a wonderful demonstration of Tia Chi and members joined in to learn some of the movements. Mrs Smith gave the vote of thanks. The next meeting is the AGM on March 17.

Leadgate WI

IN THE absence of Mrs Walker who was on holiday, vice president Mrs Griffiths conducted the meeting extending a warm welcome to all.

The meetings is now held in the afternoon instead of the evening.

Mrs Alderson read a very amusing theme. Mrs Buchan, the assistant secretary read the business, correspondence and the newsletter.

The treasurer Mrs Moody gave the financial statement. Two ladies from the DSS talked about Benefit Awareness. Many questions were asked. Mrs Buchan gave the vote of thanks.

The competition, A Purse, was won by: 1 Mrs Alderson, 2 Mrs Brain, 3 Mrs Wilson. The raffle was won by Mrs English.

Tea and biscuits were served ending an enjoyable meeting.
