CLEVELAND Bridge UK is hoping to build houses on an old sports field in Darlington and give the town some new changing rooms at South Park as a trade-off.
The company has submitted outline plans for both proposals to the borough council. The residential development would be on its sports ground in Geneva Lane, behind the Copper Beech pub.
A spokesman for the council said if sports facilities were lost at Geneva Lane, the company would be willing to make up for that by providing the changing rooms at the Victoria Embankment end of South Park.
But there would be a public consultation exercise where everyone had a chance to put their views.
