NORTH-EAST Charolais breeders Ian and John Campbell and their father, Colin, of Thrunton, Alnwick, were again among the top lots when Charolais bulls came under the hammer at last week's Perth sales.
Thrunton Scania, above, was hailed by the judge, Dave Murray of Forfar, as "a real lad for the future", and sold for 11,000gns.
The 16-month-old Scania, by the 25,000gns Mowbraypark Orlando, was reserve juniorchampion and overall reserve. The bull, which is within the breed's top 1pc with a Beef Value of CH37, went to join David and Marjorie Stobart's Cracrop herd at Longtown, near Carlisle, which they are rebuilding after foot-and-mouth.
Charolais met a rock solid trade in Perth and bidding peaked at 14,000gns twice, with 37 lots making 5,000gns or more. See sale report elsewhere on this page
