POLICE are calling a three-week crime clampdown a major success after carrying out 18 drugs raids resulting in 17 arrests.
Langbaurgh Police say drugs with a street value of more than £2,000 has been recovered as a result of Operation Vulcan.
The operation, which involved working with Customs and Excise, truancy officers and community wardens, also included a clampdown on truancy and contraband goods.
Detectives recovered 48,000 contraband cigarettes, 550 pouches of tobacco and seized computer equipment and other counterfeit goods. A total of 22 arrests were made as a result of the finds.
An 11-day truancy sweep resulted in 174 schoolchildren being questioned by police and 29 truants being returned to school.
Traffic police also stopped 133 road vehicles resulting in 17 untaxed and uninsured vehicles being seized. A further 21 people who had failed to turn up to court were also arrested.
