RESIDENTS on a Darlington estate are planning to revive a summertime tradition this year.
Volunteers at Firthmoor Community Centre are bringing back the summer carnival - once a massive, annual event on the estate.
"We want to make a whole day of it, with schools providing floats, lots of stalls and entertainment," said Kristina Pryor, of Firthmoor Community Partnership Board.
"It used to be a huge day with everybody on the estate getting involved. But for the last few years there has just been a small summer fair.
"We thought with the regeneration of the estate, it would be an ideal time to bring it all back."
The centre has secured 12 entertainment licences to use this year, meaning the carnival, on Saturday, July 12, will also feature an evening disco inside the community centre.
The daytime activities will take place on land opposite the centre in Burnside Road.
