Park-and-sail schemes, water taxis and river festivals could be introduced in an effort to attract more tourists to York.
The local authority is discussing ways of developing the city's rivers to make them more attractive to visitors. Ideas so far include installing lighting under the bridges to give them a more Continental feel and developing a continuous walkway along the River Foss. Improved moorings are also under consideration to encourage people travelling through the city by boat to stop and pay a visit.
ROAD RESTRICTIONS: There will be temporary restrictions on South Lane, Haxby on Tuesday, from 6am and midday. No vehicles will be able to park or wait on a stretch of road from its junction with Orchard Paddock.
AIRCRAFT EXHIBITION: A display of remote controlled aircraft will take place at the Pavilions Complex, Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate on Sunday. The exhibition will be open from 10am to 4pm and costs £6 for adults and £5 for children. For details call (01423) 867144.
DALES TALKS: Yorkshire Naturalists' Union is holding a conference on the future of the wildlife and historic landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales tomorrow at the Swallow St George Hotel, in Harrogate.
PENSIONER TARGETED: A female thief bluffed her way into an elderly woman's flat in Clementhorpe, York, distracted her and then stole a wallet containing cash. The thief was about 5ft 6in tall, in her late 20s and had long, dark hair.
SHEEP ESCAPE: It took police about an hour to round up 30 sheep which escaped from their pens at Malton market. It is not known how the sheep got out.
