SEDGEFIELD will celebrate Shrove Tuesday in the village's own inimitable style next week.
A mixture of church and village activities which have continued for about a thousand years, will be celebrated.
St Edmund's Parish Church members will be holding a pancake coffee morning in the parish hall from 10am until noon.
Villagers and spectators will gather on the village green for the annual Shrove Tuesday Ball Game at 1pm.
This year's game will include a parade of former champions outside the Hardwick Arms pub before the kick off. To complete the day, St Edmund's Church will hold a service of reflection before Lent at 7pm.
On Ash Wednesday, there will be a Holy Communion services at St Edmund's Church at 7.30am and 10am, and at Fishburn's St Catherine's Church at 6pm.
