A HOUSEBOUND pensioner from Thornaby was terrified when arsonists pushed a burning package through her door.
And in a separate incident, burning rubbish was pushed through the door of a hairdressers in Outram Street, Middlesbrough.
The fire brigade was called at 5pm on Saturday after plastic around the pensioner's letterbox caught fire, which spread to the front door of her Lancaster Way bunglaow.
Although the flames had burned out by the time firefighters arrived, Gordon Hobbs, of Thornaby Fire Brigade, said: "The poor lady was very shaken afterwards and it took a while for her to calm down. It is quite concerning that there are people who are prepared to put others in this sort of danger."
In the other incident, which took place at 2.45pm on Saturday, residents in the building called 999 before tackling the fire themselves.
