HOUSE BLAZE: Firefighters arrived to find a flat on Redcar's Lakes Estate ablaze. The living room was severely damaged by flames, while smoke damaged 40 per cent of the remainder of the flat. There was slight smoke damage also to an upstairs flat in the block at Blayberry Close. No one was hurt.

CHARITY BENEFITS: The Inner Wheel Club of Redcar is hosting an event with stalls, including white elephant, cake stall and tombola at Marske Leisure Centre, Marske, on Saturday, between 10am and noon. All proceeds to local charities.

DRINK UP: The King's Head, in Hutton Rudby, has been chosen as the Cleveland Camra Winter Pub of the Season. GOAL ACHIEVED: Trainees at Teesside's TTE Management and Technical Training have raised £161 for Zo's Place respite centre for seriously ill children at Normanby, near Middlesbrough, from a football tournament at Eston Sports Academy. Staff raised £360 at Christmas by making donations to the charity, rather than sending company Christmas cards.
