HUNDREDS of people gathered on Friday to pay tribute to a couple killed in a road accident 11 days ago.

Friends, family and colleagues filled St Radegund's Church, Scruton, near Northallerton, to remember the lives of Adrian Baldwin, 34, and his 29-year-old wife Suzie, who was six months pregnant when she died.

The Rev Owen Williams described them as a loving and loveable couple with much to offer in life. He said: "Adrian and Suzie were good for each other and to each other.

"They had their dramatic moments, but what a team they made. They brought out qualities in each other."

He said: "Adrian had a great appetite for life and food. He was always looking for more. He was enthusiastic, fair and honest. It took an awful lot to upset him."

Mr Williams told the congragation that Mr Baldwin had proposed to his air stewardess wife by asking the pilot to read out his proposal on the public announcement system during a Christmas Day flight. The whole plane had echoed to the cheers.

The couple were killed when their car veered on to the wrong side of the A167 near Hurworth Place and crashed with a lorry.

Mrs Baldwin, described by Mr Williams as having great determination, poise and personality, leaves behind parents Howard and Sally and brother David.

Mr Baldwin, a business partner at Northallerton Steel Erection, leaves parents Shirley and Edward, brother Andrew and sister Andrea. The funeral was followed by interment at Kirby Knowle.

Coroner Colin Penna adjourned an inquest at Darlington until the police investigation into the crash had been completed.
