TWO men made off with cash after breaking into a pub and assaulting one of the staff.
The raid took place in The Simonside pub, Newcastle Road, South Shields, at about 4am on Monday.
The pair were wearing dark clothing, including scarves and woollen hats.
A barman who heard a disturbance and went to investigate, was attacked by the pair.
The raiders then fled, climbing over a fence at the back of the pub and on to Hyperion Avenue.
