Billingham Wolves came out on top in their derby match at Hillheads against Whitley Braves in English Under 19 North A League. For different reasons both teams required victories. Wolves in third place and looking to catch Sheffield Steelhawks in second and go forward to the championship play-offs. braves are second from bottom and wanting to keep out of the promotion/relegation play-offs.

Stuart Gibbon gave Wolves the lead at 07.19 and five minutes later Liam Telfer doubled the advantage. A typical derby where the game was allowed to flow and there was no additions to the goals tally until 40.43 through Ricky Box.

Whitley cut the deficit with a powerplay strike from Ben Campbell at 44.31. Wolves made certain of a 4-1 win with a James Udell strike a minute later.

Billingham bears hosted bogey side Telford Rockets at Forum ice Arena in English Under 16 North A League but the Rockets claimed a 5-1 win. Bears scorers: Robert Dowd 1+0, James Udell 0+1.

At the other end of the table Whitley Tomahawks and Altrincham Jets met at Hillheads and both had to settle for a 3-3 draw.

There are still no points for Billingham Falcons in English Under 14 North A league following a 14-0 home defeat against Telford Tiger Cubs at Forum Ice Arena. But there was some goal joy for the Cherokees whose scorers were: Grant Sharp 3+2, Nathan Salem 3+1, Callum Davies 2+0, Joshua Lalande, Jake Shanks and Daniel Bambling 0+1.

Whitley Bay Squaws were 4-0 victors at Nottingham Vipers. In Womens Division One North. After a goalless first period Sarah Barnett put Squaws ahead on 17 minutes. Sarah Smith twice in two minutes increased Whitley's lead to 3-0 at 25.30. Smith completed he hat trick in the 38th minute.

Only Whitley Warriors of the North East's three ENHL North Clubs made the play-offs. A top four finish meant that Warriors will meet Sheffield Scimitars, Altrincham Aces and Kingston Jets in the round robin series. the winner will meet the winner of the South in a two-legged final.

A trip to Altrincham tomorrow is Whitley's open game and the visit of Kingston Jets the next day. The fixtures are reversed the following weekend as Warriors take a trip to Kingston and the host Altrincham.

Champions Sheffield are at Hillheads on March 23 and the reverse fixture in Sheffield seven days later.

Three Sunderland Scorpions players Claire Oldfield, Teresa Lewis and Lynsey Emmerson have been named in the Great Britain Women's Squad for World women's Championship Division Two in Lecco, Italy between March 31 and April 7. Scorpions also have Jane Price and Helen Stowe named as reserves. Women's Premier League play-offs champions Scorpions currently share top of the table with Cardiff Cornets.
