A TEENAGER who narrowly escaped death when he plunged 100ft from a bridge was back at work yesterday.

Carl Morgan, 18, from Sunderland, suffered horrific leg injuries when he fell from Sunderland's Wearmouth Bridge following a night out last August.

He bounced off a platform being used for repairs and snagged his trousers on scaffolding, leaving him dangling upside down, before falling to the concrete path below.

During a ten-hour operation at Sunderland Royal Hospital, Carl received three full body blood transfusions and had his left leg pinned together.

He opted to have his right leg amputated from the knee down to avoid it becoming infected.

Following a seven-and-a-half month absence from work, in which he underwent further operations, Carl returned to the London Electricity call centre in Doxford Park, Sunderland, yesterday.

He said it was far from a normal day.

"I have been dressed up all day in flashing devil horns, a bright red nose, and a red cloak for Comic Relief," he said.

"I've volunteered to come back in tonight to take pledges.

"We've had raffles, tombolas and different quizzes - it's been a bit different to say the least."

Mr Morgan said he would resume his normal job as a customer service advisor on Thursday, after undergoing training.

He said: "I'm doing great - I have a false leg from the NHS and I'm putting on weight and getting healthier.

"I'm hoping to get a more comfortable leg and a waterproof leg, which cost £6,500 each. At the moment I've got nearly £9,000, and £6,000 was raised by London Electricity.
