A PRIMARY school pupil's stylish designs are to be turned into a football strip for a fledgling team.

Chester-le-Street beat officer PC Steve Shotton set pupils at the town's Newker Primary School the challenge of designing a football strip and badge for a new football team.

The side will be made up of pupils from the school and children who use the facilities at Bullion Hall, a nearby community centre, to encourage pupils to take up sport in their own time as well as during school hours.

A design by year five pupil Beth Pattison was picked and it is hoped to turn her light green football strip and badge, which combines the school's logo with footballs, into 11 strips.

Beth was presented with two tickets for the Bolton v Sunderland today, the first game Sunderland will play with new manager Mick McCarthy in charge. Teacher Simon McBeth said: "It was just a very simple, original design, that was why she won.

"She said it was light green to represent the pitch and the badge was combined with footballs to make it suitable for Bullion Hall as well as the school."
