Books chronicling the history of east Cleveland are to be sold off to raise funds for the appeal to restore Redcar's ageing town clock. Vera Robinson, Redcar charity worker and local historian, will help to sell the books at Sotheran Stationers shop in Queen Street on Thursday and Friday, next week. She will sign copies of her history books in the shop from 10am to 2pm on both days. Sotheran's will donate £2 from the sale of each of the books and 50 per cent of the price of other books about the histories of Eston, Marske and Redcar and Redcar's lifeboats and piers to the appeal.

COFFEE MORNING: A coffee morning will be held in aid of Zoe's Place, Baby Hospice on Saturday, March 29 at 10am until noon at St Hilda's Church Hall, Mersey Road, in Redcar. Stalls will sell handmade cards and bric-a-brac. There will be a tombola and raffle. Admission is 50p including refreshments.

TOP LAKES: A meeting will be held on a Redcar estate to discuss housing issues. The Top Lakes Residents' Association will hold the meeting at Grosmont Day Centre on the first anniversary of housing association Coast and Country Housing's take-over of council homes. The public meeting will take place at 6.30pm on Wednesday, April 2.

CIRCULAR WALK: Wardens will lead a five-mile circular walk from Flatts Lane Woodland Country Park, at Normanby, to Eston Nab, next Wednesday. The walk will start from the park's visitor centre at 10am with a planned return at 2pm. Walkers are advised to bring a packed lunch. For details, call (01642) 459629.

ART POLL: Chester-le-Street Art Society will hold its spring exhibition in the town's library from March 29 to April 12, when people can cast votes for their favourite painting. The society meets on Wednesdays from 7pm to 9pm in the community centre in Newcastle Bank.
